Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) April Office Hours on Inventory Management and Tracking System |
The next monthly SNS Office Hours will be held from 4:00 - 5:00 PM ET on Wednesday, April 17. The one-hour national call for state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) partners will focus on the Inventory Management and Tracking System (IMATS), a secure Web-based software application developed to help SLTT public health agencies manage information regarding their medical countermeasure inventory.
During this session, SNS technical experts will provide an overview of the free IMATS tool, recent and pending updates, and how the tool can be used to meet both everyday and emergency inventory management needs.
Register here for the April SNS Office Hours. Within 72 hours of registering, registrants will receive an email from no-reply@zoomgov.com with a calendar invite and information to join the call. For related questions, contact sns-sltt@hhs.gov. |

The HHS/ASPR Project ECHO Clinical Readiness Rounds focus on sharing clinical challenges and successes in preparing for and responding to disasters from all threats. This program is designed to create peer-to-peer learning networks where clinicians who have more experience treating patients in emergency situations share their challenges and successes with clinicians across the U.S. and around the world with less experience in these situations. Topics for sessions are based on new and emergent information around emergency preparedness, as well as topics requested by participants.
Sessions occur every first and third Tuesday of each month from 12:00 - 1:00 PM ET. The next session will be on May 7. |

“Hospitals should be a place you go into and get the care you need, regardless of whether you’re struggling to afford your rent, the color of your skin, or what else is going on in the world around you,” said U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. “The Biden-Harris Administration is doing everything in its power to ensure hospitals have the prescription drugs and supplies they need so providers can focus on what they do best – helping our loved ones be healthy.”

Biden-Harris Administration Takes Action to Support the Primary Care Workforce |
“At the Health Resources and Services Administration, we are committed to taking action to help ensure that everyone has access to primary health care,” said Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Administrator Carole Johnson. “We know the importance of having a culturally competent and consistent source of primary care for improving health and wellness, managing chronic diseases and prescriptions, and coordinating across care teams. Yet, too often in rural communities and historically underserved communities, primary care remains difficult to access. That is why we are increasing our incentives to encourage primary care providers to practice in high need communities by paying a greater share of their
educational loans.”

New Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Vital Signs Report Highlights Challenges Women Face Getting Lifesaving Mammograms |
Approximately 40,000 U.S. women die from breast cancer each year. Mammography is recommended to screen for breast cancer and reduce breast cancer mortality. Adverse social determinants of health and health-related social needs can be barriers to receiving mammograms.
According to the latest CDC Vital Signs report, the more health-related social needs a woman has in her life, the less likely she is to be up to date with mammograms that screen for breast cancer. Examples include feeling isolated, losing a job, lacking reliable transportation, and having insecurity around food or housing.

American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP): Drug Shortages Reach All-Time High |
During the first quarter of 2024, ASHP and the University of Utah Drug Information Service, tracked 323 active shortages. This is an all-time high, surpassing the previous record of 320 shortages in 2014.
All drug classes are vulnerable to shortages. Some of the most worrying shortages involve generic sterile injectable medications, including cancer chemotherapy drugs and emergency medications stored in hospital crash carts and procedural areas. Ongoing national shortages of therapies for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder also remain a serious challenge for clinicians and patients.
